The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and the Natural Environment has launched its Christmas campaign aimed at encouraging the consumption of locally produced food during the festive season. Under the slogan “This Christmas, local produce”, the campaign will run until January 6, 2026, highlighting the quality, diversity and authenticity of food produced in the Balearic Islands.
The initiative is supported by a wide-ranging communication strategy, including television commercials, radio spots, digital advertising and printed materials, designed to strengthen the connection between consumers and the islands’ primary sector.

Christmas Campaign Launched to Promote Local Produce Consumption in the Balearic Islands
Christmas is traditionally a time for family gatherings around the table, and the campaign emphasises that many iconic Balearic dishes are rooted in local farming, fishing and livestock traditions. Recipes such as sofrit pagès, stuffed squid, roast suckling pig, Christmas sauce, cuscussó, bullit de peix and almond nougat all originate from local ingredients and long-standing culinary traditions.
Special attention is also given to Balearic wines, produced from native grape varieties such as manto negro, premsal blanc, gorgollassa, callet and giró ros, which add a distinctive character to festive meals. In addition, the campaign highlights the adaptability of local produce for international cuisine, including lamb kefta, Menorcan aubergine parmesan with Mahón-Menorca cheese, Mallorcan chickpea falafel or bouillabaisse made with locally sourced fish.
Supporting producers and promoting sustainability
Choosing local produce helps sustain agricultural, livestock and fishing activities, strengthens food sovereignty and supports a sustainable development model that protects landscapes, native varieties, indigenous breeds and the region’s gastronomic heritage.
According to the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and the Natural Environment, Joan Simonet, local produce represents identity, economic resilience and long-term sustainability. He stressed that opting for Balearic products directly supports the families who maintain the islands’ countryside and marine resources, reaffirming the institutional commitment to the primary sector.
Through its visual and audio materials, the campaign conveys a clear message: the most meaningful festive moments are created with products that have origin, history and deep local roots.
