Spain’s Ministry of Equality has condemned the gender-based killing of two women in the provinces of Valencia and Tarragona, confirmed on December 15, 2025. With these cases, the number of women murdered due to gender-based violence rises to 47 in 2025 and to 1,342 since official records began in 2003.
In Valencia, the victim was a 48-year-old woman who died on December 9 following an assault that took place on December 6. The crime was allegedly committed by her partner. She was the mother of four adult children, and no prior complaints of gender-based violence had been reported.
In Tarragona, the victim was a 36-year-old woman, allegedly killed by her partner on September 8, 2025. She had four minor children, and no previous reports of gender-based violence were on record.
As a result of these confirmed cases, the number of children orphaned by gender-based violence has risen to 35 in 2025, reaching a total of 504 since 2013.
The Minister of Equality, Ana Redondo García, and the Government Delegate against Gender-Based Violence, Carmen Martínez Perza, have expressed their strongest condemnation and rejection of these crimes, offering their support and solidarity to the victims’ families and loved ones. Both have called on public institutions and society as a whole to intensify efforts to prevent gender-based violence and to act before further lives are lost.

Equality Ministry Condemns Gender-Based Murders of Two Women in Valencia and Tarragona
The Ministry of Equality reminds the public that the 016 helpline operates 24 hours a day, every day of the year, assisting with all forms of violence against women. Additional support channels include the email address 016-online@igualdad.gob.es, the WhatsApp number 600 000 016, and an online chat service available on the official website. The service is offered in 53 languages and includes accessibility options for people with disabilities.
In emergencies, individuals are advised to call 112 or contact the National Police (091) or Civil Guard (062). The ALERTCOPS mobile application also allows users to send an immediate alert with geolocation to law enforcement authorities.
The Ministry emphasises that these assistance services can be activated not only by victims but also by anyone who becomes aware of or suspects a case of gender-based violence, stressing that collective action is essential to combat this form of violence.
