Ibiza has launched, for the first time, a fully integrated service dedicated to cleaning, conservation and maintenance of the island’s road network, including roadside areas and landscaped zones. The project, approved through a public tender, has a base budget of €3,750,070.12 (excluding VAT) and an initial duration of one year, extendable for an additional year. This marks the island’s first structured and permanent system for comprehensive road maintenance.

The new service will cover nearly 200 kilometres of roads and around 100,000 square metres of landscaped areas, to improve road safety, enhance wildfire prevention, manage vegetation along road margins and ensure proper upkeep of roundabouts, medians and green areas. Until now, these tasks were carried out sporadically or in a fragmented way; the new contract introduces a stable, continuous and professionalised model.

Ibiza Launches Its First Comprehensive Road Cleaning and Maintenance Service with a €3.75 Million Investment

The contract is divided into three distinct lots. The first includes year-round roadside cleaning and vegetation clearing. The second introduces forest maintenance tasks such as pruning, tree felling and cleaning in wooded areas through planned campaigns. The third lot focuses on the comprehensive maintenance of landscaped zones, including pruning, irrigation, phytosanitary treatments and overall aesthetic improvement.

The service will rely on a specialised workforce of at least 21 professionals across the three lots, supported by dedicated machinery, adapted vehicles and proper safety and signalling systems. The tender also sets strict requirements regarding occupational risk prevention, staff training and the use of approved protective equipment.

With the implementation of this contract, Ibiza takes a significant step forward in modernising its road maintenance strategy, improving safety, reducing fire risks and providing a cleaner, more orderly and better-maintained road network for residents and visitors.
