Government launches tender for the first contracts of the new Llucmajor rail line
In parallel, the Government has begun the strategic environmental assessment, required before the final approval of the full informational study.
The new line will connect Palma, Llucmajor, and the Airport, combining tunnel sections (almost 10 km) with surface tracks. It will serve densely populated neighbourhoods such as Pere Garau, Son Gotleu, and Son Güells, as well as key locations like the Son Llàtzer University Hospital, the future exhibition centre, and the airport terminal.
The projected demand is 8.5 million passengers per year, with estimated travel times of 30 minutes Palma–Llucmajor, 12 minutes Palma–Airport, and 18 minutes Llucmajor–Airport.
The total budget for the project stands at €811 million, covering construction works, new electric trains, and maintenance facilities. The 30 km route will include future expansion options towards Ponent and stops such as La Porciúncula, Bellavista, S’Arenal, and Son Noguera industrial estate.
