The Regional Minister for Families, Social Welfare and Dependency, Sandra Fernández, the island president Vicent Marí, and the director of the Dependency Support Foundation, Sira Fiz, signed this Monday a general protocol of action that initiates the strategic planning phase for the future transfer of responsibilities for the three public care homes in Ibiza: Can Blai, Can Raspalls and Sa Serra.
This document forms the technical and organisational basis required to ensure a stable, well-structured and secure process. Fernández highlighted the effective institutional coordination and stressed that the goal is to avoid past mistakes:
“The protocol activates a strategic planning phase essential for a complex operation such as this, which involves essential services and workers’ rights.”

Ibiza launches a key protocol to move forward with the transfer of residences
She added that the transfer will be carried out with full guarantees, protecting staff conditions and ensuring high-quality care for residents.
Marí described this step as “the first stone that will allow us to gather the necessary data to carry out the process with proper resources, legal certainty and full respect for staff and users”. He also emphasised that care homes “are not just buildings; they are homes that require stable, close-knit management.”
Currently, the Foundation manages the three centres, whose staff make up 42% of its workforce. Fernández recalled the progress made in recent years to strengthen services on the island, including the difficult-coverage bonus, which will become permanent, and the creation of the island director position to reinforce decision-making capacity in Ibiza.
