The management of GSAIB and the unions representing the workforce have reached a unanimous agreement to implement 12-hour shifts across all scheduled medical transport services as of 1 January 2026. The change will apply in Mallorca and Menorca, while Ibiza and Formentera already operate under this system.
Up to now, part of the staff worked 7.5-hour shifts while others worked 12-hour shifts, a structure that complicated service coordination and shift allocation. The new agreement also incorporates adaptations required by court rulings and by employees with caregiving responsibilities, ensuring full respect for workers’ rights.

Health Services and Unions Approve 12-Hour Shifts for Scheduled Transport Starting in 2026
By standardising the workday, both urgent and scheduled transport services will operate under a unified shift model, allowing for better route planning, improved family-work balance and more equitable rotation among employees.
Throughout 2024, GSAIB invested four million euros in implementing the collective agreement ratified in 2023. In 2025, staff received payments for excess hours, updates linked to inflation, and other compensatory elements associated with union agreements.
