Vocational Education reaches a historic record of graduates in Intermediate and Advanced Programmes

Data from the 2023-2024 academic year reveals a significant rise in the number of students completing Vocational Education programmes in Spain. The gross graduation rate for Intermediate Level reached 28.2 %, an increase of 0.5 points compared to the previous year, while the Advanced Level rose to 36.8 %, up 1.7 points—its highest value on record.

According to the Statistics of Non-University Education published by the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports, graduation rates in Intermediate Level programmes are similar for men and women. In Advanced Level cycles, the figures show a gender difference: 34.6 % among men and 39.3 % among women.

For Basic Vocational Training, the graduation rate climbed to 4.5 %, slightly higher than the previous year, with 6.1 % for men and 2.9 % for women.

In Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO), the graduation rate reached 82.1 %, 0.5 points higher than the previous year. Female students obtained an 86.3 % rate, while male students reached 78.1 %. Course progression ranged from 91.9 % in the first year to 88.5 % in the fourth.

In Upper Secondary Education (Bachillerato), the graduation rate stood at 54.9 %, a reduction of 0.7 points. Women recorded a 62.2 % graduation rate, compared to 48.0 % for men. Promotion rates remained at 89.8 % in both the first and second year.

Bachillerato graduates accounted for 66.1 % of all upper-secondary qualifications, while graduates from Intermediate Vocational Training represented 33.9 %.

Comparing the 2023-2024 data with the 2018-2019 academic year reveals broad improvements in promotion rates: +6.5 points in the second year of Bachillerato, +4.6 points in the third year of ESO, and +4.2 points in the first year of Bachillerato.
