Spain’s Social Security Reserve Fund, often referred to as the pension reserve, is expected to close the year 2025 with more than €14 billion saved — its highest level since 2017.

Throughout the year, contributions to the fund have surpassed €4.3 billion. Most of this growth comes from the Intergenerational Equity Mechanism, which has added nearly €4 billion, while the remaining amount comes from investment returns and contributions from Social Security partner entities.

Spain’s Social Security Reserve Fund Will Exceed €14 Billion by the End of 2025

As of late November, the fund held over €13.6 billion, almost entirely invested in Spanish government bonds, in line with the strategy established by its Management Committee.

According to Social Security officials, the reinforcement of the reserve fund strengthens the long-term stability of the system and provides additional security to face the demographic pressures expected in the future.
