The Menorcan wine sector has enjoyed one of its strongest years in 2025 since the revival of viticulture on the island. The Protected Geographical Indication Vi de la Terra Illa de Menorca has recorded a 27% increase in production compared to the previous year, confirming its leading role within local wine production.
Menorca currently has 175 hectares of vineyards registered for wine production, up from 154 hectares in 2024. These vineyards are used to produce wines under the IGP Illa de Menorca, the IGP Illes Balears and wines without geographical quality indication.
During the 2025 harvest, the IGP Illa de Menorca accounted for the largest share of grapes, reaching 388 tonnes, compared to 305 tonnes the previous year. This harvest came from 97.5 hectares of vineyards and resulted in a total of 2,394 hectolitres of wine, significantly higher than the 1,882 hectolitres produced in 2024.

Menorca’s IGP Vi de la Terra Illa de Menorca sets a new production record in 2025 with a 27% increase
The increase in output is attributed to several factors, including the consolidation of vineyards planted over the past decade, more favourable weather conditions than in the previous season and improved protection against bird damage through the use of protective netting. However, some white grape vineyards suffered yield losses due to strong winds during the flowering period.
Overall, 86% of the wine produced in Menorca in 2025 was classified under the IGP Illa de Menorca, 13% under the IGP Illes Balears and 1% as wine without geographical indication. Total wine production reached 2,794 hectolitres, representing a 23.7% increase year-on-year and the highest volume recorded since viticulture was reintroduced nearly 30 years ago.
Production by type was distributed as follows:
- White wine: 1,388 hl (50%)
- Red wine: 720 hl (26%)
- Rosé wine: 686 hl (24%)
The 2025 campaign also welcomed a new active winery, bringing the total number of operating cellars on the island to twelve.
The Island Council of Menorca has reaffirmed its commitment to the wine sector through a €12,000 cooperation agreement with the Menorca Wine Producers Association, supporting promotion, outreach and training initiatives, as well as facilitating participation in trade fairs.
