The Teatre Principal de Palma has enjoyed a highly successful weekend with the return of zarzuela to its stage. Performances of La corte de Faraón attracted over 2,500 spectators, including three scheduled shows and an open dress rehearsal, confirming the strong public interest in this classic lyrical genre.

Audience feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, praising both the artistic quality and the lively, colourful staging, which blends humour and tradition with a modern visual approach. The production managed to engage audiences of all ages, staying true to the spirit of zarzuela while presenting it in an accessible and contemporary way.

This project is part of the theatre’s broader commitment to reviving and promoting zarzuela, an initiative that began last season through educational and outreach activities aimed at young performers and new audiences. Recent performances beyond the main stage have further expanded its cultural reach.

The production brought together a high-level artistic team, with experienced directors and a cast combining renowned performers with local talent. Musical accompaniment by orchestra and choir contributed to the overall success of the performances.

In addition, activities designed for audiences under 35 helped strengthen the connection with younger spectators, underlining that zarzuela remains a living, dynamic genre with a place in today’s cultural scene.
