Construction has started on the Crestatx roundabout and civic path project in the municipality of Sa Pobla, a major infrastructure initiative aimed at improving road safety and promoting sustainable mobility in northern Mallorca. The project involves an investment of approximately €2.3 million, funded through an infrastructure agreement with the Balearic Islands Government.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Balearic President Marga Prohens and Mallorca’s island president Llorenç Galmés, together with infrastructure officials and local representatives. The works are expected to take around ten months to complete.

The project forms part of a €30 million infrastructure programme for road improvements across Mallorca during 2025 and 2026, financed through island compensation funds. More than half of the 18 planned projects are already underway or completed.

The works include a new roundabout and a 2.5-kilometre civic path linking Sa Pobla with the residential areas of Crestatx, S’Obac and Son Toni, providing a safe route for pedestrians and cyclists. The path will cross over the motorway and the Sant Miquel stream, significantly reducing the risks previously faced by residents and students when crossing the road.

The project incorporates landscape integration and sustainability measures, including pavement improvements, new drainage systems, LED lighting, reuse of existing materials and energy-efficiency criteria. Mixed steel-and-wood safety barriers and adapted road signage will also be installed to enhance traffic safety.

This long-awaited project addresses a historic demand from residents and modernises a connection that had seen no major mobility upgrades for decades, contributing to safer, more sustainable and better-connected transport infrastructure in Mallorca.
