IBDONA condemns a new gender-based killing in Palma

The Balearic Institute for Women (IBDONA) has strongly condemned the confirmation of a gender-based killing of a woman that took place in Palma in February 2025. The institution has reiterated its firm opposition to all forms of male violence against women.

With this case, the number of women murdered due to gender-based violence in the Balearic Islands has reached 47 since official records began in 2003, highlighting the ongoing seriousness of this form of violence.

IBDONA condemns a new gender-based killing in Palma

IBDONA Director Cati Salom has expressed her support and made herself available to the victim’s family and close circle. She stressed that tragedies such as this underline the urgent need for stronger joint action and effective coordination between institutions to prevent violence against women.

The Institute also emphasised the importance of collective responsibility and institutional cooperation in tackling gender-based violence.

IBDONA reminds victims and those around them that 24-hour support services are available, including the IBDONA helpline (900 178 989), the 112 emergency number, and the 016 national helpline, which is free of charge and does not appear on phone bills.
