Progress continues on the development of the new Emergency Management Centre for Ibiza and Formentera, following the award of the contract to draft the renovation, extension and adaptation project for the Sa Coma building, made available by the Ibiza Island Council.
The public company Gestió d’Emergències de les Illes Balears (GEIB) has awarded the contract for a total amount of €149,377.60. The selected firm, Arquitectura y Urbanismo Estudio Boix S.L.P., will have four months to deliver the final execution project.
A first technical site visit was held this week, attended by the Director General for Emergencies, Pablo Gárriz, GEIB Managing Director Francisca González, emergency specialists and representatives of the design company. The visit served to define the core objectives of the project and assess the building’s functional potential. Ibiza Island Councillor Marilina Ribas also took part in the visit.

Progress made on the new Emergency Management Centre in Ibiza
The project focuses on Building No. 304 of the Sa Coma Island Services Park, which was granted to GEIB last July under a 20-year free-use agreement.
The total investment for the project amounts to €1.866 million, covering the rehabilitation and adaptation of the building to meet emergency coordination requirements, subject to the island council’s authorisation. The existing 390 m² facility will be expanded with an additional floor, increasing the total built area to 780 m².
The new centre will include accommodation with en-suite bathrooms for emergency personnel, changing rooms, storage areas, a rest zone, offices, a crisis and coordination room, and an external canopy for emergency vehicles. The facility is designed to provide a strategic, supra-municipal response to the needs of Ibiza and Formentera.
Currently, Ibiza relies on a shared emergency coordination space of only 70 m², which is insufficient given the island’s geographical and demographic challenges.
This project represents a significant step forward in strengthening public safety and improving emergency response services across the islands, ensuring high-quality and equitable coverage.
