The Consell de Mallorca has unveiled the creation of the Moda Artesana de Mallorca quality label, an initiative bringing together 18 artisans from across the island to protect, promote and highlight Mallorcan artisan fashion as a contemporary cultural expression.

As part of FITUR, the brand will be officially presented in Madrid on 22 January, through a major fashion show held at the iconic Cines Callao. The event aims to project Mallorca’s identity through craftsmanship, showcasing garments deeply rooted in local traditions, trades and cultural heritage to both the public and industry professionals.

Mallorca Island Council President Llorenç Galmés stated that the initiative represents “a different approach to promoting the island, based on culture, local talent and authenticity”, and stressed that taking the brand to FITUR strengthens the Council’s strategy of linking culture and tourism as key pillars of Mallorca’s international positioning.

Vice President and Councillor for Culture and Heritage Antònia Roca explained that Moda Artesana de Mallorca is an official quality label, unanimously approved, which for the first time recognises artisan fashion as living cultural heritage. The brand is structured around five main artisan families: textiles and garment making, ornamentation and jewellery, plant fibres, leather and hide, and footwear. Together, they highlight traditional techniques such as telas de lenguas (ikat), Mallorcan embroidery, palm-leaf braiding, historic jewellery and leather weaving, all reinterpreted through a contemporary lens.

The label currently certifies the work of 18 professionals, guaranteeing the origin, quality and authenticity of their products, while promoting local, sustainable production closely linked to the territory. Conceived as an open and evolving project, the brand aims to incorporate new artisans in the future.

In addition, on 27 February, the Teatro Principal de Palma will host a new Moda Artesana de Mallorca fashion show, further establishing the initiative as a key event within the island’s cultural calendar.
