The Llar d’Ancians residential home, managed by the Mallorca Institute of Social Affairs (IMAS), has celebrated the traditional festival of Sant Antoni with a festive community event bringing together residents, family members and staff.

The celebration was attended by IMAS Vice President Magdalena García Gual, who joined the residential community in marking one of Mallorca’s most deeply rooted popular traditions.

This event forms part of a wider programme of Sant Antoni and Sant Sebastià celebrations taking place this week and next across all IMAS centres. The initiative aims to bring local traditions closer to social service users while strengthening community life within residential care facilities.

The programme at Llar d’Ancians included traditional “dimonis” dances, fire displays and a communal barbecue. A particularly meaningful element was the participation of the centre’s own Colla de Foc, made up of both residents and professionals, highlighting active involvement, creativity and shared cultural identity.

Magdalena García Gual emphasised that celebrations like this show that residential homes are not only places of care, but also spaces for social interaction, participation and community life, where older people remain active participants in local traditions.

She also noted that IMAS is committed to ensuring its centres remain open, culturally rooted and connected to families and the surrounding community, stressing that emotional well-being among older people is closely linked to belonging and to keeping traditions alive.
