The Mallorca Island Council and the Porreres Town Council have signed a cooperation agreement that will allow the construction of the second section of the town’s northern bypass to move forward, a long-awaited infrastructure aimed at improving traffic flow and road safety.
The agreement was signed on January 19 by Llorenç Galmés, President of the Mallorca Island Council, and Francisca Mora, Mayor of Porreres, with representatives from the island’s infrastructure and mobility departments also in attendance.
The project has a total budget of €1.7 million, with €1.2 million provided by the island authority and the remaining €549,000 contributed by the local council, mainly allocated to the development of parking facilities included in the plan.
Under the terms of the agreement, the Porreres Town Council will be responsible for drafting the project, managing administrative procedures, and awarding the construction contract, a system designed to speed up implementation. The island authority will provide funding and technical oversight during construction. Once completed, the new section will be incorporated into the island’s road network.

Agreement signed to launch the construction of the second section of Porreres’ northern bypass
Construction is expected to begin in the second quarter of the year, following the tendering and contract award process, which is set to start shortly.
The northern bypass is intended to redirect through traffic away from the town center, increasing road safety and reducing congestion, noise, and pollution for residents. When completed, the new section will link Santa Creu Street with Pont Street and extend to the road connecting Porreres with Vilafranca de Bonany, complementing the first section of the bypass, which has been in operation for several years.
The project represents a significant step toward improving mobility and quality of life in Porreres through coordinated action between local and island institutions.
