The Balearic Islands Regional Development Agency (ADRBalears) and the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) have recognised four university projects for their strong entrepreneurial orientation and innovative approach at the latest edition of the Ibemprèn Awards, an initiative aimed at encouraging entrepreneurship among university students.

The awards are part of the Ibemprèn Chair, a program designed to foster business creation, applied innovation, and knowledge transfer within the academic environment. The selected projects were developed during the 2023–2024 and 2024–2025 academic years and include both undergraduate and master’s degree work.

The first undergraduate prize was awarded to a digital platform focused on the adoption and rescue of exotic birds, combining educational content, personalised adoption tools, and artificial intelligence capable of identifying species from images. The project addresses animal welfare while helping prevent the environmental risks associated with abandoned psittacine birds.

The second prize went to an AI-powered voice-controlled navigation system that allows users to interact with graphical interfaces using spoken commands. The solution stands out for its accessibility potential and its ability to operate without direct access to application code or specific accessibility APIs.

The third prize recognised an AI-based English tutor designed for professional communication, which analyses real conversations from virtual meetings and provides tailored feedback and exercises to improve fluency and confidence in business settings.

In the master’s degree category, the top award was given to a project focused on strengthening the local dairy sector through the creation of a new cheese factory in Felanitx. The proposal aims to increase the added value of milk production, improve farm sustainability, and enhance the competitiveness of locally produced dairy products.

Through these awards, ADRBalears and the UIB reaffirm their commitment to supporting young talent, fostering entrepreneurship, and promoting innovative projects capable of generating positive economic, social, and environmental impact in the Balearic Islands.
