The city of Inca continues to move forward in its energy transition strategy by deploying new photovoltaic installations across municipal facilities, aiming to reduce energy consumption, lower carbon emissions, and improve public spending efficiency.

The Ajuntament d’Inca has recently completed a 72 kWp self-consumption photovoltaic system on the roof of the municipal maintenance warehouse. This installation will supply a significant share of the building’s electricity demand and forms part of the Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (SECAP), aligned with the 2030 Agenda goals.

The project has received funding under the 2024–2025 public subsidy programme supporting local climate and energy actions.

Inca strengthens its energy transition with new photovoltaic installations in municipal facilities. New investments to boost energy savings

At the same time, the local authority has launched a public tender worth €184,850.66 (VAT included) for two additional projects:

  • A new photovoltaic installation at the Inca Local Police building.
  • The extension of the photovoltaic system at the Toninaina Early Childhood Education Centre.

Both initiatives are co-financed by Next Generation EU funds, within Spain’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, supporting renewable self-consumption projects.

Previously completed EU-funded projects

These actions complement other recent projects funded by European resources, such as the expansion of the photovoltaic installation at the Inca Footwear and Industry Museum, now powered entirely by renewable energy, and the photovoltaic pergola at the Sports Palace, which combines clean energy production with improved public spaces.

Further photovoltaic installations are also being assessed at Sa Creu and the Mateu Cañellas sports complex car park, expanding the municipality’s renewable energy infrastructure.

Son Fiol photovoltaic park

In 2023, a 100 kW self-consumption photovoltaic park was commissioned at the Son Fiol water extraction site, one of the highest electricity consumption points in the municipality. The facility generates approximately 145,547 kWh per year, reduces emissions by over 53 tonnes of CO₂ annually, and delivers annual savings of around €38,000.

Commitment to sustainability

Inca’s Mayor, Virgilio Moreno, highlighted that these initiatives demonstrate a strong commitment to renewable energy, reinforcing Inca’s position as a sustainable, energy-efficient and climate-resilient city.
