Mallorca Island Council promotes sports tourism at FITUR with an annual economic impact exceeding €7.3 million
Following the presentation, the Minister for Environment, Rural Affairs and Sports, Pedro Bestard, signed the renewal agreement for 2026 with nine hotel chains and venues that will host the Island Council’s sports activities: Beach Club Font de Sa Cala, Bellevue Club Mallorca, Blau, Casal de la Colònia de Sant Pere, Fundación Pere Tarrés, Garden, Iberostar, Protur and Viva. Representatives from the Federación Hotelera de Mallorca (FEHM) were also present at the event.
Bestard underlined that these are high-quality four- and five-star hotels and rural accommodations with specialised facilities and privileged natural surroundings, making them ideal for sports programmes. He described the initiative as an exemplary public–private partnership aimed at boosting the local economy while strengthening social cohesion through sport.
According to the data presented, the Mallorca Island Council makes a direct investment of €732,149, reaching 122,000 participants and generating 9,563 overnight stays. In addition, the indirect economic impact is estimated at €6.56 million, benefiting sectors such as transport, sports instructors, catering, equipment supply and insurance services.
Beyond economic figures, the programme focuses on quality and innovation, offering activities such as water bikes, dragon boat outings, and traditional and adapted sailing. Through this approach, Mallorca consolidates its position as a year-round destination for sport, wellness and active tourism, supported by a high-standard and well-adapted hotel infrastructure.
