Students in their fourth year of secondary education from CC La Miraculosa took part in the round table discussion “11F: I also want to be a scientist”, an educational initiative aimed at encouraging scientific interest and highlighting the role of women in science, with a particular focus on the food sector.

The event was held in connection with the International Day of Women and Girls in Science and was organised by the CEP IBSTEAM, under the authority of the Regional Ministry of Education and Universities. Its main goal was to bring students closer to real scientific careers and to inspire scientific vocations, especially among girls and young women.

The round table featured four professionals working in the field of food science from different perspectives, including research, sustainability, nutrition, biotechnology, innovation and food safety. Through their professional journeys, the speakers provided insight into the wide range of career opportunities and current challenges within the sector.

The event took place on January 23 at 12:00 p.m. at the Teatre Principal and was streamed live, enabling schools across the region to follow the discussion in real time from their classrooms. The activity was particularly recommended for secondary education students, upper secondary education and intermediate vocational training programmes.

CC La Miraculosa attended the event in person as the winner of the previous edition of the 11F competition, a distinction that recognises the school’s commitment to promoting gender equality and encouraging scientific careers. During the session, students were able to ask questions directly to the speakers, fostering an open and engaging exchange.

This initiative forms part of the “11F: I also want to be a scientist” programme, which seeks to promote scientific vocations, highlight women’s contributions to science and provide new female role models in key fields for the future, such as sustainable food systems.
