The regional administration has awarded two strategic contracts aimed at speeding up the processing of disability degree recognition procedures. This initiative will enable the comprehensive assessment of more than 14,000 people and the completion of up to 21,600 disability evaluations across the Balearic Islands.

The contracts, with an initial duration of two years and the possibility of extension, represent a total investment of €2.37 million and form part of the action plan to reduce waiting lists for disability and dependency assessments, introduced last autumn. The measure marks a significant step forward in improving administrative efficiency and safeguarding social rights.

One of the contracts provides for the deployment of six full assessment teams, composed of specialised professionals, allowing for 14,400 comprehensive disability evaluations. The second contract strengthens territorial coverage through the addition of professionals in Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza, enabling 7,200 complementary assessments.

Overall, the initiative involves 16 professionals, including healthcare evaluators, psychologists and social workers, who will assess applicants and prepare the technical reports required for the administrative decision-making process. These reports will subsequently be reviewed by the competent assessment body before the official recognition of the disability degree.

This action complements the recent incorporation of 33 professionals into permanent positions within the disability and dependency care system. All staff members are currently undergoing specialised training, including instruction in dedicated digital tools, to ensure consistent criteria, technical accuracy and high-quality service delivery.

The responsible department highlights that strengthening assessment teams is essential to shorten waiting times, promote territorial equity and ensure that all residents, regardless of the island where they live, can exercise their right to a timely and fair disability assessment.
