The fourth-year workshops of the Degree in Acting at the Escola Superior d’Art Dramàtic de les Illes Balears (ESADIB) are entering a new phase with their premiere at the Sala Petita of the Teatre Principal de Palma, followed by the launch of a tour that will take their productions beyond Palma and outside the island of Mallorca for the first time. This initiative strengthens the public projection of the school’s pedagogical and creative work and reinforces its connection with the wider performing arts landscape.

The programme opens with Damnatio, which will be performed on 30 and 31 January and 1 February. Directed by lecturer Biel Jordà, the piece is a free adaptation inspired by William Shakespeare’s Macbeth. The production focuses on a contemporary protagonist, Lídia, whose personal history and inner voices blur the boundaries between reality and fiction, shaping a text-based tragedy with a strong psychological dimension.

The following week, on 6, 7 and 8 February, audiences will be able to see Àiax. Based on Sophocles’ tragedy of the same name and directed by lecturer Joan M. Albinyana, the production places the character of Ajax in a contemporary setting that revisits themes such as origins, heroic masculinity, power, and collective responsibility. The piece combines dramatic text with audiovisual language to explore pride, vulnerability, and the pursuit of justice.

As part of the new touring project, both productions will also be presented at other venues through newly established collaboration agreements. At the Teatre de Manacor, Damnatio will be staged on 5 February at 7:00 p.m. in the Sala de Dalt, while Àiax will be performed on 11 February at the same time. On that same day, Damnatio will travel to Menorca, where it will be performed at the Teatre des Born de Ciutadella at 8:30 p.m., bringing the school’s work closer to Menorcan audiences.

In addition, Àiax has been selected to take part in the ESADFEST, which will be held in Bilbao from 4 to 8 May. This will be the third edition of the national festival of higher education drama schools and further consolidates ESADIB’s presence within this professional and academic network.

Through this expanded tour, ESADIB strengthens its fourth-year workshops as a space for artistic creation and public presentation, while extending the external reach of the training and creative processes developed by students in the final stage of their studies.
