Over one thousand pupils from different municipalities across Mallorca took part in the School Day of Non-Violence and Peace, celebrated by the Consell de Mallorca at the Centro Cultural la Misericòrdia. The event aimed to promote values such as peaceful coexistence, respect, tolerance and non-violence among children, at a time when international conflicts continue to have a profound global impact.
Students and teachers from eleven schools gathered in the Patio de los Hombres, transforming the space into a setting for shared reflection and collective participation. One of the central moments of the event was the creation of a large mosaic spelling out the word PEACE, formed by personalised cards designed by the children, symbolising a collective commitment to harmony and mutual understanding.

The President of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, highlighted the importance of educating younger generations in strong values that help build fairer and more supportive societies, while underlining the responsibility of public institutions to foster educational initiatives that encourage empathy and respect. Likewise, the Vice-President and Minister for Culture and Heritage, Antònia Roca, emphasised that peace is not merely an aspiration but a learning process that begins in childhood and shapes responsible, human-rights-oriented citizens.
A particularly meaningful moment was the reading of the Peace Day manifesto by three pupils from participating schools, who stressed the importance of unity, equality and mutual respect as essential foundations for coexistence. This was followed by a collective performance of Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen, sung in Catalan, Spanish and English, accompanied by the symbolic release of doves as a gesture of peace and hope.
One of the highlights of this year’s celebration was the participation of players from Palma Futsal, who engaged closely with the children and reinforced values such as teamwork, dedication and respect through their personal example. The event also featured live musical performances and concluded with a refreshment offered to all attendees, bringing to an end a day marked by emotion, participation and a strong educational message in favour of peace.
