The Ibiza and Formentera Health Area has reinforced its Medical Oncology service with the incorporation of a new specialist, Dr. Álvaro Ruiz Granados, who joins the team after previous professional experience at a major university hospital in Madrid. With this appointment, the service has regained its full complement of five medical oncologists, restoring operational stability after a period of adjustment.
This development was announced by the Regional Minister of Health during an institutional meeting with oncology patient associations and advocacy groups, where recent measures aimed at improving cancer care delivery were presented. The meeting brought together healthcare authorities, local institutional representatives, and the management team of the Health Area, underlining the administration’s commitment to transparency and patient-centred care.

Ibiza and Formentera Health Area Strengthens Medical Oncology and Restores Full Specialist Staffing
In addition to strengthening medical staffing, the Health Department confirmed the introduction of a new and strategic role: the oncology nurse case manager. This professional figure will begin working in mid-February and is designed to enhance care coordination, improve patient guidance, and ensure continuity throughout the oncology treatment pathway.
Following the recent appointments, the Medical Oncology department is once again staffed by five specialists under the leadership of its head of service. This reinforcement enables the gradual normalisation of clinical activity, particularly follow-up and review consultations that had been impacted in recent months.
Dr. Ruiz Granados brings extensive academic and clinical training in medical oncology, including postgraduate specialisation in neuroendocrine and genitourinary tumors. His professional background contributes to strengthening the clinical capacity and expertise of the oncology service at Hospital Can Misses.
The Health Department has also expressed its appreciation for the sustained efforts of the oncology team during this demanding period, as well as for the collaboration of other medical specialties and the constructive attitude shown by patients and their associations. These measures represent a decisive step toward consolidating oncology care services and adapting them to the healthcare needs of the population of Ibiza and Formentera.
