Menorca has carried out a comprehensive clean-up and waste management operation at the Aerodrome of Menorca, as part of the process of reorganising and preparing this strategic public infrastructure. The intervention has resulted in the removal of 6,970 kilograms of waste, which has been transferred to authorised treatment facilities in accordance with current regulations.

The works, with a total cost of €17,986.89 (VAT included), involved the removal of different types of waste that had accumulated over many years in various areas of the site. Specifically, 2,750 kg of tyres, 900 kg of asbestos, 2,620 kg of bulky waste, 700 kg of iron, and 26 kg of contaminated plastic packaging were managed. These materials were mainly located in the cave hangars, the air-raid shelter tunnel and the surroundings of the former VOR building.

The island president, accompanied by officials responsible for tourism promotion and for culture, education, youth and sports, visited the completed works and highlighted the importance of this action from both an environmental and heritage perspective. The clean-up contributes to improving the state of conservation of a site with significant historical and functional value.

The Aerodrome of Menorca, located in the municipalities of Maó and Sant Lluís, covers an area of more than 746,000 square metres and has formed part of the island’s public heritage since its acquisition in April 2025. With this action, Menorca moves forward in preserving a key site for the island’s historical memory and future development.
