The Regional Ministry of Education and Universities, in coordination with the Directorate General for Emergencies, has opened the registration period for the training programme under the new prevention and self-protection initiative for educational centres, in compliance with national regulations requiring the implementation of civil protection and risk management plans in schools and secondary education institutions.

The training, delivered online by the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports, is aimed at both teaching staff and emergency service professionals, who will later take part in educational sessions conducted directly within schools.

The programme will run from 24 February to 17 March and covers a range of risk scenarios established at the national level, including flooding, earthquakes, volcanic hazards, forest fires, adverse weather events and technological risks. Particular emphasis is placed on risks specific to the Balearic Islands, especially flash flooding associated with seasonal torrents.

Upon completion of the training, participants will be recognised as accredited trainers of the Autonomous Community, with a dedicated identification badge for emergency personnel and the allocation of official training credits for teachers. The registration period will remain open until 20 February.

The model implemented in the Balearic Islands is unique at the national level, as it is jointly developed by the education and emergency management authorities. This coordinated approach ensures a high level of technical expertise and the presence of specialised professionals in the classroom. During student-focused sessions, emergency service personnel will always be accompanied by a trained teacher from the respective centre.

The primary aim of the programme is to promote civil protection awareness among the widest possible segment of the population, using the educational environment as a key tool for strengthening community preparedness and resilience.
