The Menorca Island Council and Càritas Diocesana de Menorca have signed two cooperation agreements aimed at enhancing social support for people and families facing vulnerability and social exclusion, with a total investment of €302,500.
The funding will support three main areas of action: social and labour inclusion programs, assistance for basic needs such as food and essential goods, and the consolidation of the Es Barracó Paidós project, which focuses on families with children at risk of exclusion. The initiatives are implemented in coordination with local social services and community organisations.
One key component of the agreements is the social and employment integration program, designed to help individuals who face significant barriers to entering the labour market. Through personalised guidance, training, and supported work experiences, the program seeks to restore autonomy and improve long-term employment prospects.
Another major line of action ensures access to food and essential products through a system of prepaid solidarity cards, allowing beneficiaries to choose what they need while preserving dignity and supporting local businesses. This approach provides a flexible response to economic hardship and complements other food assistance mechanisms.

The third pillar supports the Es Barracó Paidós Menorca project, a socio-educational service for families with children up to the age of 12. The program works on family routines, educational support, and parenting skills, aiming to prevent the intergenerational transmission of poverty. Funding will ensure continuity in Ciutadella and facilitate the groundwork for future expansion to Maó.
Recent data highlight the reach of these initiatives, with hundreds of families assisted, numerous food support measures activated, and a notable percentage of participants in employment programs securing jobs after completing their training.
Through these agreements, Menorca reinforces its social protection framework, emphasizing prevention, coordinated action, and partnership with third-sector organizations to address evolving social needs in an effective and humane way.
