Consell Insular de Menorca has awarded a total of 241 grants to support sport and physical activity on the island of Menorca, benefiting non-profit sports organisations, clubs and federations. The grants aim to encourage sport participation, organisational management and operations, the organisation and promotion of activities, participation in competitions outside Menorca, and the training of sports coaches.

The total amount awarded reaches €469,394.41, representing an increase compared to the previous year, when the funding stood at €440,000. This figure also confirms a clear upward trend compared to 2023, when financial support for sports clubs amounted to €270,000. The progressive increase highlights the strengthening of institutional support for Menorca’s sports community.

Within the established application period, 260 applications were submitted, of which 241 were approved, meaning that 92.69% of all applications received a positive outcome. Of the total submissions, 102 corresponded to sports clubs and 10 to sports federations.

Menorca awards 241 grants to local sports organisations

Funding line 1 (A and B), aimed at the maintenance and support of sports organisations — both clubs and federations — with a budget of €181,000, and funding line 2, allocated to travel and accommodation for participation in competitions outside Menorca, with €145,000, were the most in-demand. These lines received 102 and 68 applications, respectively. Line 3 received 9 applications, line 4 received 28, line 5 received 24, line 6 received 9, and line 7 received a total of 20.

The funding framework established that any unspent budget from one line would be reassigned first to line 2 and subsequently to line 1A. As a result, and based on the applications received, the final distribution of the €470,000 global budget was adjusted as follows:

  • Line 1A: Initial allocation €175,000 – Final amount €194,436.70
  • Line 1B: Initial allocation €5,000 – Final amount €5,000
  • Line 2: Initial allocation €145,000 – Final amount €175,397.40
  • Line 3: Initial allocation €15,000 – Final amount €9,541.63
  • Line 4: Initial allocation €20,000 – Final amount €16,235.45
  • Line 5: Initial allocation €30,000 – Final amount €19,923.50
  • Line 6: Initial allocation €40,000 – Final amount €9,306.43
  • Line 7: Initial allocation €40,000 – Final amount €39,553.30

In total, €469,394.41 has been distributed, representing almost 100% of the available funding. Applications were rejected mainly due to incorrect registration as sports entities, failure to certify completion of required training courses, or non-compliance with the regulatory requirements, such as submitting documentation outside the deadline or failing to provide the necessary justification.
