The Institut Mallorquí d’Afers Socials (IMAS) has received more than 500 teddy bears donated by Club Voleibol Mayurqa as part of a community-driven solidarity campaign aimed at supporting children in foster care across Mallorca.

The initiative benefits children living in residential care centres managed by IMAS, as well as those currently placed with foster families. The collection effort was made possible through the active involvement of the club’s families, who responded collectively to this charitable initiative.

The President of IMAS and Councillor for Social Welfare of the Consell de Mallorca, Guillermo Sánchez, emphasised the social significance of the donation, noting that the gesture extends beyond material assistance. He highlighted the positive emotional impact that such contributions can have on children who have experienced challenging circumstances.

Luana Franco, President of Club Voleibol Mayurqa, explained that the organisation includes 32 teams with participants ranging from 5 to 30 years old, and that promoting values such as solidarity and social commitment forms an essential part of the club’s mission. While the club has previously carried out similar charitable initiatives, this marks its first direct collaboration with IMAS, making the occasion particularly meaningful.

The donation was formally received in the presence of the Island Director of Social Services, Childhood and Family, Apol·lònia Socias, and the Island Director of Comprehensive Care Centres and Programs for Children and Adolescents, Magdalena Ramis.

This collaborative effort highlights the importance of coordinated action between sports organizations, public administrations and the broader community to strengthen protection and emotional support for vulnerable children and adolescents in Mallorca.
