The Plan Veo programme has recorded more than 54,000 applications since its launch, establishing itself as a high-impact initiative to improve access to visual aid systems for children and adolescents. The scheme provides financial support of up to €100 per beneficiary under the age of 16 for the purchase of glasses, prescription lenses or contact lenses.

Promoted by the Ministerio de Sanidad, Plan Veo was introduced on 16 December 2025 as an exceptional measure aimed at addressing a public health need and reducing economic barriers to vision correction at early ages. The programme is implemented in collaboration with the Consejo General de Colegios de Ópticos-Optometristas and is supported by a broad network of accredited optical health establishments nationwide.

The Plan Veo programme exceeds 54,000 applications and strengthens access to children’s visual health care

As of 14 January, a total of 54,083 applications from minors have been submitted. Of these, 32,309 have already been approved, while the remaining applications are currently under review. Among the approved cases, 56.1% correspond to girls and 43.9% to boys, indicating balanced participation across genders.

The programme currently includes 6,863 participating optical establishments, representing over two-thirds of the national total, along with 12,743 opticians-optometrists involved in delivering the initiative. Regarding access pathways, most applicants were referred by optical-optometry professionals, followed by public health ophthalmology services and, to a lesser extent, private ophthalmology.

The largest group of beneficiaries falls within the 12 to 16 age range, followed by children aged 6 to 11. Glasses are the most frequently requested product, and the most commonly detected refractive conditions include astigmatism, myopia and hyperopia. Plan Veo has been implemented across all autonomous communities and autonomous cities, demonstrating strong territorial coverage and a significant contribution to equity in visual health care.
