The Consell de Mallorca has hosted a blood donation drive for the second consecutive year, achieving a high level of public participation and consolidating the initiative as a key act of solidarity supporting the healthcare system in the Balearic Islands. The event was organised in collaboration with the Fundació Banc de Sang i Teixits de les Illes Balears.

The campaign resulted in a total of 27 blood donations and welcomed 6 new donors, strengthening available blood reserves and contributing directly to ensuring hospital care across the islands.

The president of the island institution, Llorenç Galmés, took part in the initiative by donating blood himself and expressed his appreciation to all participants for their commitment. He highlighted the strong civic response and emphasised the importance of collective solidarity in maintaining adequate blood supplies and saving lives.

This initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to promote blood donation within institutional buildings and to raise awareness of its vital importance, particularly at a time when blood reserves stand at approximately 55% of medical needs. There is currently a specific demand for blood groups A+, A-, O+ and O-, and health services require around 200 donations per day to ensure adequate healthcare coverage throughout the Balearic Islands.
