The Directorate General for Mental Health is making progress in the implementation of the new care model through the launch of the first multidisciplinary working groups, aimed at developing clinical guidelines and care protocols tailored to the severity of each mental health condition. This strategy seeks to enhance the quality, equity and efficiency of care by ensuring a structured, needs-based and proportionate response for the population.

The first multidisciplinary team has been established to address eating disorders, a key strategic priority for the Regional Ministry of Health. This group is tasked with designing clinical pathways that will guide care across different healthcare levels, ensuring that each patient receives appropriate support according to the complexity of their condition, while preventing unnecessary pressure on specialised services.

Mental Health advances the new care model through multidisciplinary teams and severity-based care

The team brings together professionals from primary care, paediatrics, mental health units, specialised eating disorder programs and healthcare sector representatives from Menorca and Ibiza, alongside regional mental health coordination. The inclusion of patient support organisations reinforces a person-centred approach and promotes a comprehensive understanding of care needs.

The new mental health care model places strong emphasis on reinforcing primary care by increasing clinical resources and professional capacity, while allowing specialised services to focus on the most severe and complex cases. This approach aims to improve access to mental health care, reduce waiting times and ensure that healthcare responses are aligned with the actual needs and severity of each situation.
