Palma’s Intermodal Station has brought into operation two new escalators at the main entrance, marking the first comprehensive renewal of these facilities since their installation nearly twenty years ago. This milestone forms part of a broader refurbishment project aimed at enhancing accessibility, strengthening safety standards and improving overall comfort for public transport users across Mallorca.
The commissioning of the new escalators is included within an investment plan amounting to €3.6 million, designed to modernise one of the island’s most strategic transport hubs. In the coming days, an additional escalator providing access to the bus bays will be activated, while the second phase of works is scheduled for the second quarter of 2026.

Palma Intermodal Station Launches Comprehensive Escalator Upgrade with Two New Main Entrance Units
Beyond the renewal of mechanical equipment, the comprehensive refurbishment of Palma Intermodal Station encompasses a series of measures focused on user experience and inclusive mobility. These include the installation of new, larger and more accessible public restrooms, the replacement of tactile paving to support passengers with visual impairments, the creation of bicycle parking facilities with capacity for 72 spaces, and the redesign of the customer service office into a more functional, accessible and welcoming area.
These actions complement other recent improvements, such as the deployment of new digital information screens to enhance real-time passenger communication and the installation of industrial ventilation systems in the bus terminal to improve air circulation and comfort in the boarding areas. The overall upgrade responds to the significant increase in passenger numbers recorded since the station’s opening, with annual usage having risen to more than 16.5 million journeys.
Through this set of initiatives, the Government of the Balearic Islands reaffirms its commitment to high-quality public transport infrastructure, ensuring safety, accessibility and efficiency, and strengthening Palma Intermodal Station’s role as a central node in Mallorca’s interurban mobility network.
