More than 120 public and private sector professionals attended the first presentation event of the Strategic Projects Acceleration Unit (UAPE), a newly established body designed to streamline strategic investments and enhance the economic competitiveness of the Balearic Islands. The event took place at the auditorium of the Parc Bit de Palma and brought together technical staff from regional administrations alongside representatives of the business and professional community.

The UAPE has been created as a cornerstone of a regulatory framework aimed at accelerating high-impact projects and strengthening the islands’ capacity to attract investment. Its purpose is to shorten administrative timelines, simplify procedures and improve coordination among public authorities, thereby fostering a more efficient, transparent and investor-friendly environment.

Opening the session, the Director General for Strategic Projects, European Funds and Administrative Simplification, Bárbara Barceló, outlined the objectives of the new framework and highlighted the central role of the UAPE in supporting privately promoted initiatives that may be designated as Projects of Special Strategic Interest. She emphasised that the unit represents a structural shift in how public administration supports strategic investment, combining speed with legal certainty and institutional coordination.

Throughout the event, technical representatives from various departments presented key regulatory changes aimed at administrative simplification and the faster implementation of strategic activities and investments. A roundtable discussion further explored the UAPE’s operational role as a single-entry point, underscoring its function as a specialised team that guides promoters through the entire approval process and facilitates interactions with multiple authorities.

The Strategic Projects Acceleration Unit forms part of a broader package of measures to support private strategic investment, including advisory services, targeted incentives and enhanced public-private collaboration. Additional presentation sessions are scheduled to be held in Menorca and Ibiza in the coming months, extending the reach and practical application of this instrument across the entire island territory.
