As part of the celebrations for Día de les Illes Balears, a chamber ensemble from the Orquesta Sinfónica Illes Balears will present a free concert on 2 March 2026, at 12:00 noon, in the S’Aljub space of Es Baluard Museum of Contemporary Art in Palma. Admission will be free of charge until full capacity is reached.

The performance offers a carefully curated musical journey that blends classical tradition, operatic lyricism and Mediterranean character. The programme has been specially designed for this occasion, and features works by renowned composers such as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Pietro Mascagni, Giacomo Puccini and Georges Bizet, alongside compositions by E. Pastor and A. Mairata, which are deeply rooted in the musical heritage of the Balearic Islands.

The concert will feature mezzo-soprano Laura de la Fuente, accompanied by a string ensemble formed by Smerald Spahiu and Paula Marqués on violins, Raquel Cobo on viola and Lucrecia Garrigues on cello, all members of the Orquesta Sinfónica Illes Balears.

The programme includes pieces such as La Sibil·la, Mozart’s Divertimento, the Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana by Mascagni, Puccini’s aria O mio babbino caro, and a selection from Bizet’s Carmen Suite, featuring well-known excerpts including Aragonaise, Habanera and Toreador. Special emphasis is given to Tres cançons populars by E. Pastor and Cançó per a la Serra by A. Mairata, works that highlight the richness of traditional songs from Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza.

This concert is part of a three-event programme organised to commemorate Día de les Illes Balears, which also includes a choral concert on 26 February, a chamber music performance on 2 March, and the family-oriented production Music for Children, scheduled for 7 and 8 March.
