A delegation from Bomberos de Mallorca, led by the Island Director of Emergencies, Joan Fornàs, has taken part in the International Security and Emergency Fair SICUR, held at IFEMA Madrid, to gain first-hand insight into the latest technological innovations in emergency management.
The visit enabled direct engagement with specialised companies, equipment manufacturers and representatives from other emergency services, fostering knowledge exchange and the identification of advanced solutions in prevention, response and operational coordination.

Mallorca Fire Service
Throughout the event, the delegation reviewed tools designed to enhance response capacity in complex emergencies, improve firefighter safety and optimise operational protocols. In this context, the service continues to progress with the implementation of a drone unit, intended to strengthen aerial assessment in major fires and rescues, support the search for missing persons, evaluate risks in hard-to-access areas and improve real-time decision-making.
Participation in SICUR forms part of Mallorca Fire Service’s ongoing strategy of modernisation and continuous improvement, aimed at incorporating innovations that contribute to a more efficient, coordinated and future-ready public service.
Enhanced resources and operational capacity
The year 2025 marked a significant step forward in reinforcing resources and consolidating operational capacity. Of particular note is the full deployment of the Milana aircraft, officially presented in the summer of 2025, which has become a key asset in rescues, wildfire response, preventive surveillance and support for complex operations.
In terms of infrastructure, continued investment has been made in the construction of new fire stations, such as the facility in Santanyí, alongside the modernisation of the Manacor station, ensuring alignment with current and future operational requirements. This strategy also incorporates sustainability measures, including the installation of solar panels at the Alcúdia station, reducing environmental impact and improving energy efficiency.
New investments in fleet and infrastructure for 2026
In 2026, the Consell de Mallorca will implement a comprehensive fleet renewal plan for Mallorca Fire Service, focusing on replacing vehicles over 15 years old. With a budget of €5 million, the programme includes the acquisition of four light urban fire engines, three heavy rural fire engines and several rescue vehicles, providing the service with modern and highly capable resources.
An additional €5 million will be allocated to the construction of the new Santanyí fire station, the ninth facility within the service. With a permanent crew, the station will significantly reduce response times in its coverage area and will be equipped with a range of vehicles suited to different emergency scenarios.
Complementing these investments, the service will acquire first-response equipment for large-scale incidents under adverse weather conditions and renew operational protective clothing across all stations, further enhancing firefighter safety and operational effectiveness.
