From 3 to 5 March, the Balearic Islands will take part in ITB de Berlín, the leading tourism trade fair for the German market, with a clear strategic focus: positioning culture as the backbone of a renewed tourism model and as a key driver for reducing seasonality.

The participation is coordinated by the Agencia de Estrategia Turística de las Illes Balears and will feature a 705-square-metre stand bringing together Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera. Designed to be fully accessible and built using sustainable materials and processes, the stand forms part of initiatives supported by European recovery funding.

The Balearic Islands showcase culture as a strategic pillar at ITB Berlin to promote year-round tourism

Under the campaign “Illes Balears, where culture beats”, the stand will highlight the cultural identity of the islands as a distinctive asset capable of generating tourism activity throughout the year and fostering a more balanced, diversified and high-quality tourism model. The space will host the four island councils, ten municipalities and six private tourism sector co-exhibitors.

Culture as a catalyst for a more balanced tourism model

The institutional agenda of the Govern de les Illes Balears will play a prominent role during the fair. On Tuesday, 3 March, a presentation entitled Culture as a key to seasonality reduction will underline the strategic importance of cultural offerings in attracting visitors beyond the peak season.

The event will also feature the presentation of the Balearic Islands Tourism Digital Twin, an innovative tool designed to enhance territorial planning and tourism management through data-driven decision-making, with sustainability at its core. In addition, the international art fair Art Cologne, to be held in Palma in April, will be presented as a further step in strengthening the islands’ cultural positioning in the German market.

Meetings with leading German tour operators

As part of the ITB agenda, the Balearic delegation will hold meetings with key German tour operators, including TUI, Alltours, DER Touristik, Schauinsland Reisen and the Deutscher Reiseverband. These meetings will address expectations for the 2026 season and communicate the Balearic strategy focused on sustainability, innovation, quality and culture as defining elements of the destination.

Gastronomy as a showcase for local produce

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Natural Environment will deliver a comprehensive gastronomic programme throughout the three days of the fair, aimed at promoting local produce and the primary sector of the Balearic Islands. The programme will include tastings featuring products from all four islands, paired with wines representing local designations of origin and geographical indications.

This gastronomic space will serve as an international platform to highlight the quality, diversity and authenticity of Balearic agri-food products, reinforcing their connection to culture, territory and a more sustainable tourism model.
