The Balearic Government presents the first edition of Art Cologne Palma at ITB as a strategic pillar of cultural tourism

During the presentation, which also included the participation of Daniel Hug, Artistic Director of Art Cologne, the President emphasised the importance of initiatives that combine cultural development with high-quality tourism. According to the regional government, Art Cologne Palma represents a strategic opportunity to position Mallorca as a global platform where leading international galleries interact with the island’s dynamic artistic community.

Art Cologne Palma Mallorca will mark the first Mediterranean edition of Art Cologne, the world’s oldest art fair, originally founded in Cologne in 1967. For its inaugural edition in Palma, the fair will bring together 90 galleries from 20 countries, including a strong representation of 14 galleries from Mallorca, alongside well-established names from the national and international contemporary art scene.

The presentation in Berlin highlighted the international scope of the project while also underlining its strong connection to the Balearic cultural ecosystem. The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports emphasized the collaboration with Art Palma Contemporani, an association representing contemporary art galleries in Mallorca, and pointed to the cultural program that will complement the fair.

The event will be accompanied by a series of exhibitions and cultural initiatives promoted by leading institutions across the islands. Among them is a major exhibition dedicated to the artist Jannis Kounellis at Es Baluard Museum of Contemporary Art, as well as artistic programs organized by the Pilar and Joan Miró Foundation and the Casal Solleric, expanding the cultural impact of the fair across Palma.

The Balearic Government views this initiative not merely as a four-day art event, but as part of a broader strategy aimed at strengthening the regional artistic ecosystem and connecting local creators, galleries and cultural institutions with the main European art networks.

Through this presentation at ITB Berlin, the Government of the Balearic Islands reaffirms its commitment to cultural tourism and excellence, positioning Palma as a major contemporary art destination in southern Europe for the upcoming spring season.
