Modernisation works at the Port of Pollença are moving forward with the construction of the second pontoon, a key element within a broader project aimed at strengthening the safety, functionality, and resilience of the port’s infrastructure.
Kico Villalonga, manager of Ports de les Illes Balears (PortsIB), visited the site to review the progress of the improvement works currently underway at the port facilities. The visit was also attended by the first deputy mayor of the Pollença City Council, Joana Aina Campomar, and the second deputy mayor, Maria José Jiménez Escribano.
During the technical inspection, the current stage of the second pontoon construction was evaluated. This structure forms part of a wider intervention plan designed to rehabilitate and reinforce different areas of the port infrastructure.

Port of Pollença Renovation Progresses with Construction of the Second Pontoon
The project includes several structural improvement measures, such as the replacement of the deck plates of the six existing pontoons, identified as A, B, C, D, E, and F. These elements show signs of deterioration caused by long-term exposure to marine conditions, including cracks, fissures, and corrosion affecting the reinforcement components.
Another key aspect of the project involves stabilising piles and quay structures to address settlement issues detected in several sections of the port. These corrective works aim to enhance the stability of the infrastructure and ensure the long-term durability of the facilities.
Additionally, certain sections of the quay will be raised in height to improve operational conditions and prepare the port for potential future sea-level rise scenarios. This adaptation measure is aligned with strategic planning that considers the long-term effects of climate change on coastal infrastructure.
The total investment allocated to the works amounts to 2,070,639 euros, including VAT, and forms part of an ongoing program to upgrade and modernize publicly managed port facilities.
Through these actions, the port infrastructure in Pollença will benefit from improved safety standards, greater operational efficiency, and enhanced capacity to meet future maritime and environmental challenges.
