The first information session for families within the Safe Celebrations Programme gathered around fifty parents at the Secondary Education Institute (IES) of Sineu. The initiative, promoted by the Government of the Balearic Islands, aims to provide families with guidance and practical tools to help young people enjoy celebrations and leisure activities in a safe and responsible way.

The talk was delivered by the coordinator of the Safe Celebrations Programme, Rafel Covas, with the participation of school liaison police officers from several municipalities in the Pla de Mallorca area. Specifically, Diego Amor, liaison officer from Llubí, and Tomeu Bauzá, liaison officer from Lloret, contributed to the session. The event was opened by the director of IES Sineu, Pere Gelabert, who emphasized the importance of collaboration between educational institutions, families and public authorities.

The first Government talk for families on Safe Celebrations records strong attendance and participation

The session took place in the afternoon and brought together families from Sineu as well as from other municipalities in the regions of Pla de Mallorca and Raiguer. The high level of attendance highlights the growing interest among parents in understanding the risks that may arise in certain festive environments and in learning strategies to support their children effectively.

During the session, participants explored common situations that may occur during celebrations attended by teenagers and young people, including traditional festivities, community events and youth gatherings. The presentation provided practical recommendations aimed at strengthening family communication, encouraging responsible behaviour and preventing potential risks associated with these leisure contexts.

This activity forms part of the Safe Celebrations Programme, promoted through the Institute of Public Security of the Balearic Islands (ISPIB). The programme focuses on prevention and coordination among institutions, local authorities, police services and families in order to encourage safer festive environments and promote responsible leisure among young people.

The strong turnout for this first session has been positively assessed by the organisers, who consider the response from families to be a clear sign of interest in initiatives that address the challenges related to youth leisure and public celebrations.

Further sessions are expected to be organised in additional municipalities participating in the programme. Through initiatives of this kind, the aim is to strengthen prevention strategies, reinforce community collaboration and contribute to the development of celebrations that are safe, respectful and socially responsible.
