Around 200 students from CEIPIESO Gabriel Vallseca in Palma attended the conference “Dones, esport i diversitat”, an initiative promoted by the Consell de Mallorca in collaboration with the association Fútbol por la Igualdad. The activity was designed to encourage gender equality, promote cultural diversity and strengthen social inclusion through the positive values associated with sport.
The event was attended by the president of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, the Councillor for the Presidency, Toni Fuster, and the Island Director for Families, Ana Ferriol. The conference forms part of the programme organised by the Consell to mark International Women’s Day on 8 March, under the campaign slogan “Les coses ordinàries ens fan ser dones extraordinàries”, which highlights the importance of everyday actions that contribute to sustaining society.

The stories of three women athletes reach 200 young people through the conference “Dones, esport i diversitat” organised by the Consell de Mallorca
During the session, students had the opportunity to hear directly from three athletes with remarkable personal and professional journeys. The discussion was moderated by Teresa Carvi, a professional in audiovisual sports communication and an emotional coach, who guided the conversation towards themes such as personal development, equal opportunities and diversity in sport.
One of the speakers was Shella Badaseraye, a high-level athlete born in Nigeria who has lived in Mallorca since the age of twelve. Her testimony highlighted the values of perseverance, determination and resilience. Badaseraye balances her sporting career with motherhood and the ongoing care of her daughter due to health reasons, while continuing to pursue her ambition of representing Spain in a world championship.
The conference also featured Farah El Bousairi, a Mallorcan boxer born in Morocco and a two-time Spanish champion. Her career illustrates the ability to break barriers in sports traditionally dominated by men. Through her personal journey, she explained how boxing has become a powerful tool for empowerment, discipline and personal growth.
The third speaker was Taty Ferrer, recognised among the most influential women in Spanish sport and a prominent advocate for diversity. During her intervention she reflected on the role of sport as a driver for social integration and as a key mechanism for promoting equal opportunities.
The discussion also addressed the structural challenges that women still face in the sports sector, including limited visibility and the difficulties involved in balancing professional careers with personal responsibilities. These barriers can become even more complex when combined with factors such as cultural background, motherhood or social context.
Through initiatives like this conference, the Consell de Mallorca aims to create spaces for dialogue that highlight real stories of women who have overcome obstacles through sport. The initiative seeks to provide inspiring role models for young people while encouraging critical thinking and social awareness.
The event concluded with a collaborative artistic activity in which students took part in painting a design created by an artist that symbolises values such as sport, equality and diversity, combining reflection with creative expression.
