The Consell de Mallorca approves the call for the temporary pool of tourist places for holiday rentals

Text in English

The Consell de Mallorca has approved the call for the temporary pool of tourist accommodation places dedicated to holiday rentals, a measure aimed at reactivating the rotation system established under current tourism regulations. The decision was adopted during the meeting of the governing board of the Tourist Accommodation Pool Consortium (CBAT), chaired by the councillor for tourism, Guillem Ginard.

The new call complies with the decree issued by the Government of the Balearic Islands and is based exclusively on the tourist accommodation places that have become available due to withdrawals recorded in the previous call and in recent months. Consequently, the initiative does not create new tourist accommodation capacity but reallocates existing places already included in the regulated system for holiday rentals.

A key feature of the new procedure is the introduction of an updated allocation mechanism designed to guarantee transparency, legal certainty, fairness and equal opportunities. Under this system, applications will first receive a processing order number. The final order of allocation will then be determined through a public draw.

The draw will take place in the presence of a public official, specifically the Secretary General of the Consell de Mallorca or an appointed substitute. To further strengthen transparency, the event will be broadcast through the official communication channels of the island institution.

The call also establishes the creation of a waiting list that will remain valid for a period of six months. During this timeframe, any additional places that become available due to new withdrawals will be incorporated into the temporary pool and allocated according to the order determined in the initial draw. The number of additional places that may be assigned during this period will depend on the number of withdrawals that occur.

This exceptional measure aims to resolve a situation that had stalled the rotation mechanism for tourist accommodation places established by current regulations. By activating this call, the Consell de Mallorca seeks to prevent available places from remaining inactive and to ensure that the regulated and legal holiday rental market operates normally, especially ahead of the tourist season.

Through this decision, the island institution strengthens the management and control of the tourist accommodation sector by ensuring the rotation and stabilization of existing accommodation places without increasing the overall supply. At the same time, the Department of Tourism is working together with the Mallorca Hotel Federation to define the allocation system for tourist accommodation places included in the temporary pool linked to the hotel sector.
