The Mallorca Council for Children and Adolescents (CIAM) has held a new plenary session aimed at continuing the development of proposals put forward by children and young people from different municipalities across the island. This meeting forms part of the participatory work carried out by the council to ensure that the perspectives of younger generations are considered in public decision-making processes in Mallorca.

Before the formal session, council members took part in preparatory workshops where they worked collaboratively to organise the topics that would be addressed during the plenary meeting. These working sessions also served to develop new ideas linked to the participatory fair scheduled for 9 May, an initiative designed to encourage broader involvement from children and adolescents in projects focused on improving life in Mallorca.

The Mallorca Council for Children and Adolescents holds a new plenary session to advance proposals from the island’s children and teenagers

The plenary session was subsequently held in the assembly hall of the Consell de Mallorca, where the young representatives presented their reflections and proposals to representatives from various departments of the island institution. This dialogue allowed participants to highlight concerns, priorities and ideas that reflect the interests and needs of children and adolescents living on the island.

During the meeting, several members who had been unable to attend the formal establishment of the second CIAM in January officially took office as council representatives. This step strengthens the representation of municipalities and expands the participation of young people in this institutional platform.

The session also brought together professionals and officials involved in social services, child protection and family support, along with representatives of programmes dedicated to promoting children’s rights. Municipal professionals, members of the Pla d’Atenció als Drets dels Infants i Adolescents de Mallorca (PADIAM), and relatives of the council members also attended the event.

The Mallorca Council for Children and Adolescents is a participatory body made up of children and teenagers from various municipalities across the island. Its purpose is to guarantee their right to be heard and to actively participate in public initiatives that affect their lives. Through this platform, young participants can express opinions, develop proposals and collaborate with institutions in shaping policies that promote a more inclusive Mallorca that respects and protects the rights of children and adolescents.
