The Consell de Mallorca is promoting the Senior Theatre Showcase throughout March, a cultural initiative that highlights the artistic work of theatre groups composed of older residents across the island. The programme aims to strengthen active participation among senior citizens while also encouraging sociocultural engagement within local communities.

More than 100 performers are taking part in this initiative, which features 10 theatrical performances held in different municipalities across Mallorca. Each production brings together an average of around fifteen actors and actresses, demonstrating the strong involvement of theatre groups connected to senior associations and community organisations.

The performances are hosted in cultural venues and theatres located in several municipalities, including Alaró, Selva, Andratx, Bunyola, Llucmajor, Sant Llorenç des Cardassar and Palma. By distributing the programme across multiple locations, the initiative helps broaden access to cultural events and brings community theatre closer to audiences throughout the island.

Institutional representatives have attended several of the scheduled performances as part of the programme. Among them was the staging of Mañana llama, performed by the Bahías de Llucmajor theatre group at the Auditori Es Centre in Selva. These visits highlight the institutional recognition of the dedication and cultural contribution made by senior theatre groups.

The programme features productions presented by a variety of theatre groups from Mallorca. These include El inspector, performed by the ONCE Sa Boira group at the Teatro de Alaró; Brots de tardor, staged by the Major de Melià Hotels group at the Sant Josep Residence in Palma; Un alien a Mallorca, presented by the Camp Rodó Senior Association at the Municipal Theatre of Bunyola; and Muertos de la risa, performed by the Son Caliu Retirees and Pensioners Association at the Theatre of Andratx.

Through this initiative, the Consell de Mallorca promotes cultural participation among older citizens while also strengthening the cultural life of municipalities across the island. The Senior Theatre Showcase serves as a platform that celebrates creativity, encourages community engagement and highlights the valuable social role played by senior citizens in Mallorca’s cultural landscape.
