The municipality of Santanyí will benefit from an investment exceeding €1.5 million aimed at implementing several projects designed to enhance the quality of the tourist destination and improve local infrastructure. These initiatives seek to upgrade public spaces used by both visitors and residents while supporting the development of a more sustainable and balanced tourism model.
During an institutional visit to the municipality, the Executive Councillor for Tourism of the Consell de Mallorca, Guillem Ginard, accompanied by the Island Director for Tourism Governance and Sustainability, Pedro Mas, met with the mayor of Santanyí, Maria Pons, and members of the municipal government team. The meeting provided an opportunity to review the progress of ongoing projects and discuss the municipality’s tourism-related needs.
In total, five initiatives funded by the Consell de Mallorca are currently being developed in Santanyí, focusing on infrastructure modernisation and the diversification of the local tourism offer.

Over €1.5 million allocated to tourism improvement projects in Santanyí
Infrastructure and mobility improvements
Among the most significant initiatives are three projects financed through the Tourist Accommodation Pool Consortium (CBAT). One of them focuses on the improvement of the multifunctional building in Cala d’Or, with a budget of €500,000 aimed at modernising its facilities and optimising its use for tourism-related and community activities.
Another key project involves the creation of the Cristòfol Colom parking area in Portopetro, with an investment exceeding €680,000. This initiative is expected to improve traffic management and access to one of the municipality’s most visited areas.
In addition, a new cycling path connecting Calonge and Cala Ferrera is planned. The project, valued at €300,000, aims to encourage sustainable mobility and facilitate travel between residential areas and tourist zones.
Initiatives to diversify tourism experiences
Alongside infrastructure investments, two additional initiatives have been launched to broaden and enhance the tourism experience. These projects are financed through a municipal support programme and represent a combined investment of more than €30,000.
One initiative involves the development of snorkeling routes and guides designed to highlight the municipality’s coastline and promote nature-based tourism activities.
Another project has led to the installation of four accessible platforms at the beaches of Sa Font de N’Alis, Cala Gran, Cala Llombards and Cala Santanyí. These facilities provide safer and more comfortable spaces for people with reduced mobility, families with children, elderly visitors and other users requiring improved accessibility.
Meeting with the local hotel sector
The visit also included a meeting with representatives of the Santanyí Hotel Association. This first contact allowed for an exchange of perspectives regarding the needs of the sector and preparations for the upcoming tourist season.
The visit is part of a broader programme of meetings with municipalities across Mallorca aimed at strengthening institutional cooperation and promoting initiatives that support the sustainable development of tourism across the island.
