Mallorca’s interurban transport network is enhancing its operational capacity with the addition of 14 new buses during March, a measure aimed at improving service quality and responding to increasing demand on key routes. This fleet expansion is part of an ongoing modernization process following the revision of service concessions carried out in the previous year.

The new vehicles will enter service on March 27 and are designed to offer greater passenger capacity, allowing for improved coverage on high-demand corridors. This initiative is included in a broader plan that foresees the incorporation of a total of 26 buses throughout the year, in addition to six units introduced previously, representing an overall fleet growth of 7% over two years.

These buses will primarily serve routes connecting the Llevant, Nord, and Ponent areas of Mallorca, where daily commuter demand is particularly significant. Service improvements also include increased frequencies and the consolidation of key routes, including year-round airport connections.

From a technical perspective, the new units feature high-capacity designs, including articulated buses up to 18 meters in length with seating configurations of up to 75 passengers. This increased capacity enhances operational efficiency and helps alleviate congestion during peak travel times.

The fleet expansion also reinforces a strong commitment to sustainability, as all newly incorporated buses are powered by compressed natural gas, contributing to lower emissions and reduced environmental impact. This development positions the interurban transport network among the most advanced in Europe in terms of environmentally responsible mobility.

In addition, the new buses are equipped with advanced onboard technologies to improve passenger experience, such as real-time information displays and USB charging points. Accessibility has also been prioritized, with features designed to accommodate passengers with reduced mobility.

Safety remains a key priority, with the integration of surveillance systems, intelligent driving assistance technologies, and operational controls that ensure high safety standards. These enhancements contribute to a more reliable, secure, and user-focused public transport system aligned with current mobility needs.
