The Balearic Islands Health Service has reported the cancellation of 19,194 healthcare procedures over the past week as a result of the medical staff strike against the proposed reform of the statutory framework governing public healthcare personnel. This situation has significantly disrupted healthcare activity across hospitals and primary care centers in the region.

Of the total number of cancelled procedures, 409 were surgical operations, 9,182 corresponded to hospital consultations and diagnostic or radiological tests, and 9,547 were primary care appointments. Mallorca recorded the highest number of cancellations, followed by Menorca and the Pitiüses, highlighting the widespread territorial impact of the strike.

In response, the Health Service has implemented a rescheduling plan to reorganize the affected appointments and procedures, aiming to minimize the negative impact on patients. This process will be carried out progressively, with priority given to cases requiring urgent medical attention.

Over the two-week duration of the strike, the total number of postponed healthcare activities has reached 51,844. This includes 1,140 surgical procedures, 26,615 hospital consultations and diagnostic tests, and 24,069 primary care visits.

The accumulation of delayed activity is expected to lead to a moderate increase in waiting lists for surgeries, consultations, and diagnostic procedures. Despite this, the Balearic healthcare system continues to focus on restoring normal operations and ensuring continuity of care as efficiently as possible.
