The Department of Education and Universities has launched a new call for 20 excellence scholarships aimed at students enrolled in the fourth year of compulsory secondary education (4.º de ESO) in publicly funded schools in the Balearic Islands for the 2026-2027 academic year. This program, with a total budget of €300,000, offers selected students the opportunity to complete an academic term in Canada under a full linguistic immersion model.

The main objective of this initiative is to strengthen English language proficiency while promoting both academic and personal development through an international educational experience. During their stay, participants will attend Canadian schools and live with host families, ensuring full integration into the local cultural and educational environment.

Each scholarship, valued at up to €15,000 per student, covers all associated expenses, including travel, accommodation, meals, school enrollment, insurance, and participation in cultural and sports activities. In addition, students will receive continuous personalized support throughout the program, which will take place from late August to December 2026.

Eligible applicants must be enrolled in 4.º de ESO during the 2026-2027 academic year in publicly funded schools in the Balearic Islands, have completed the previous two academic years in similar institutions, achieved a minimum average grade of 9 in the second year of ESO, and hold the necessary documentation to travel to Canada. Applications must be submitted within ten calendar days from the day following the official publication, either online or in person.

This initiative is part of a broader strategy to promote academic excellence and international mobility among students. Currently, 25 students from the Balearic Islands are undertaking a similar program in Ireland, specifically in Cork and Kilkenny, where they are attending local schools and living with host families.

Through this program, the Government reinforces its commitment to international education opportunities, fostering key competencies, enhancing student autonomy, and expanding academic prospects in a global context.
