A total of 200 Spanish troops deployed in Iraq have been successfully evacuated to Turkey and other countries following an operation launched after the outbreak of the conflict in the Middle East. The mission ensured the safe relocation of the personnel to secure areas amid the deteriorating regional situation.

The evacuation was carried out in stages, after an initial group of around one hundred troops had already been transferred to safe locations in Turkey. This operation forms part of the measures implemented to protect military personnel deployed in high-risk international environments.

The evacuated troops were participating in international missions focused on counterterrorism efforts and the strengthening of Iraqi security forces, within the framework of the international coalition against jihadism and the NATO mission in Iraq.

The personnel are expected to return to Spain in the coming hours on flights departing from the Turkish air base of Incirlik. This operation marks the completion of the withdrawal of Spanish troops in response to increasing instability in the region.
