The Government of the Balearic Islands, through the Ministry of Business, Self-Employment and Energy, has formally requested the Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDAE) to extend the execution and justification deadlines for several funding calls linked to the Investment Plan for Energy Transition in the Balearic Islands (PITEIB). The objective is to guarantee the proper completion of ongoing projects and maximize the effective use of available funds for the region’s energy transformation.
This request arises in response to external challenges currently impacting project timelines. These include disruptions in international supply chains, particularly affecting key components such as energy storage systems and medium- and high-voltage electrical equipment. In addition, the global geopolitical context has contributed to rising costs in energy and materials, as well as increased market uncertainty. The logistical characteristics of the Balearic Islands further add complexity to the procurement and transportation of materials.

Through this technical proposal, the regional government aims to adjust deadlines in a justified manner while maintaining alignment with the objectives of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. Authorities highlight their compliance with interim milestones and the significant number of projects already mobilized to accelerate the energy transition across the islands.
PITEIB funding lines are playing a crucial role in promoting self-consumption, enhancing energy efficiency, and advancing towards a more sustainable and resilient energy model. Extending the deadlines will help ensure that investments result in fully operational installations, strengthening decarbonization efforts and maximizing the economic, social, and environmental impact of public funding in the Balearic Islands.
